Advertisers get a percentage of ad unit's traffic with respect to the amount of money paid by them. "Rewards" allow advertisers to explicitly specify the amount of money that should be spent on a particular ad unit during a certain period of time. Ad units receive paid rewards in small portions and are likely to generate more impressions to the payers during that period.

Hint: Advertisers can enable Goal Tracking and use API to automatically reward useful ad units thus optimizing their campaigns.
